Acting Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Abu Bakarr Karim is now the substantive minister, replacing Dennis Vandi who was suspended after being named in the Commissions of Inquiry White Paper and still waiting judgment of his appeal. Renown journalist, Mamadi Gobeh Kamara is swapping position with Solomon Jamiru, the man he succeeded at the Ministry of Information and Communications as deputy minister. Mamadi moves to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy while Solomon Jamiru returns to Youyi Building as Deputy Minister of Information and Communications.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-1883810847636355&output=html&h=250&slotname=5028900945&adk=372658052&adf=763633231&pi=t.ma~as.5028900945&w=300&fwrn=7&lmt=1620165998&psa=1&format=300×250&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2F39c24cdd5f44470aca32cc595b8210bd-sl-en%3Ffeatures%3D2114219%26client%3Dmini%26uid%3D14a6a9f7f94a7f4d17fb9bcf26647b2105038822%26like_count%3D0&flash=0&wgl=1&dt=1620165997293&bpp=10&bdt=17761&idt=883&shv=r20210429&cbv=%2Fr20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3Db41b4a7ddb176385-22983b99fbc70066%3AT%3D1620165351%3ART%3D1620165351%3AS%3DALNI_MbEJR6nMT2dcwVj3OqIt7jNG5Iejg&prev_fmts=0x0%2C300x250&nras=1&correlator=286572551713&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1323456010.1620165998&ga_sid=1620165998&ga_hid=1191883530&ga_fc=0&u_tz=0&u_his=2&u_java=0&u_h=640&u_w=360&u_ah=640&u_aw=360&u_cd=32&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=30&ady=1919&biw=360&bih=568&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=31060956%2C31060474&oid=3&pvsid=2913792446196278&pem=395&eae=0&fc=1920&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C568%2C360%2C568&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CoeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=0&bc=29&ifi=3&uci=a!3&btvi=2&xpc=IxEH5sT47u&p=https%3A//cdn-af.feednews.com&dtd=924

Perhaps the most shocking in the list is that of one-time campaign manager for President Bio, Dr. Alie Kabbah who has been replaced as Sierra Leone’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

Dr. Kabbah who was moved from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the United Nations has been appointed as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, a move that sparked debate on social media when the reshuffle was announced with some people referring to it as demotion while others think otherwise.

Colonel (Rtd) Fanday Turay, a long time Diplomat at the United Nations who was replaced in 2020 with Dr. Prince Harding as Chairman of the National Commission for Privatization returns to government as head of the country’s Mission to the United Nations, replacing Dr. Alie Kabbah.

There are some new entrants in the government that are not too known by the public. Musa Kpaka comes in as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security I, Dr. Theresa T. Dick as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security II.https://res.adx.opera.com/pagead/?w=328&h=0&pk=s4592841290048&ct=&uc=true&cc=US&lc=en&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2F39c24cdd5f44470aca32cc595b8210bd-sl-en%3Ffeatures%3D2114219%26client%3Dmini%26uid%3D14a6a9f7f94a7f4d17fb9bcf26647b2105038822%26like_count%3D0&rf=&cst=UTF-8&title=UHJlc2lkZW50IEJpbyBNYWtlcyAzcmQgQ2FiaW5ldCBSZXNodWZmbGUgLSBPcGVyYSBOZXdzIE9mZmljaWFs&vr=cdn-af.feednews.com&bl=en-US&sh=640&sw=360&sch=4498&scw=360&scl=0&sct=0&tz=GMT%2B0000&vph=568&vpw=360&debug=false

Sarjoh Aziz Kamara is the new Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education and Hindowa Boakai Bindi is the new Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs.

Rupert Davies is the new High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, replacing Ambassador Solomon Gembeh who has been recalled home to serve as Member of the Board of Directors of the National Telecommunication Commission.https://res.adx.opera.com/pagead/?w=328&h=0&pk=s4592841791680&ct=&uc=true&cc=US&lc=en&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2F39c24cdd5f44470aca32cc595b8210bd-sl-en%3Ffeatures%3D2114219%26client%3Dmini%26uid%3D14a6a9f7f94a7f4d17fb9bcf26647b2105038822%26like_count%3D0&rf=&cst=UTF-8&title=UHJlc2lkZW50IEJpbyBNYWtlcyAzcmQgQ2FiaW5ldCBSZXNodWZmbGUgLSBPcGVyYSBOZXdzIE9mZmljaWFs&vr=cdn-af.feednews.com&bl=en-US&sh=640&sw=360&sch=4498&scw=360&scl=0&sct=0&tz=GMT%2B0000&vph=568&vpw=360&debug=false

Deputy Minister of Finance II, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura has also been appointed as Chairman of the National COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre, NaCOVERC where he was Deputy Coordinator.

Nabeela Tunis, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Sam King Brima, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security II have both been sacked by President Bio.

However, the new Cabinet does not seem to be gender balanced with one of the few women holding full ministerial portfolio, Nabeela Tunis leaving with only one woman coming in as deputy minister II, Dr. Theresa T. Dick at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security.

Addressing staff of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Free Quality Education and Teaching Service Commission at the Ministry’s conference hall on Thursday 29th April 2021, Manager Sesay draws their attention to section 47 of the 2008 Anti-Corruption Act which makes receiving gift for corrupt purpose a punishable offence. He cautioned them that as public officers, they should carry themselves and conduct their activities free from corruption.

Generally looking back into initial trends of book learning and education since independence, one could capture hail and admirable moments (the Athens of West Africa). But alas! Attitudes and behavioral patterns, coupled with unsatisfactory lackadaisically complaisance, mudded by dwindling reading culture have all stifle the three R’s: (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic). The ACC has become more concerned to get all sectors involved in education out of this worrying sequence, and put them on their toes in a bid that they professionally perform with excellence to straighten the pervading crookedness therein.

Talking to the Ministry officials on best practices stipulated in the 2004 Education Act and the 2008 Anti-Corruption Act (amended in 2019), the North West Regional Manager reminded them as civil / public servants who are partners in development to boost and uphold the academic sector of Sierra Leone as expected on performance

An informed and enlightened nation has no option, but to glow in a socio-economic sphere. Ignorance is the basis to a nation’s underdevelopment,” he stated.

Moving forward, the Regional Manager took attendees through common practices in the education sector which have suffocated the anticipated glorious ambiance in education. Pinpointing on misappropriation, abuse of office and position, and conspiracy to commit a corrupt offence, Manager Sesay explained aspects enshrined in the 2008 AC Act which when one falls foul of, indicted, he or she could be convicted by a competent court of law.

Making remarks to the program, North West MBSSE Deputy Director (DD) Alfred Conteh expressed appreciation to the ACC for considering his entity with awareness raising on prevalent corrupt practices in the education sector. He said he had been compliant since a communique was reached at, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the ACC and MBSSE to promote Pay No Bribe (PNB) Campaign in Sierra Leone. He promised to ensure a thorough monitoring and supervising of MBSSE staff that integrity and professionalism become a hallmark in the education sector of Sierra Leone.

Regional Director Free Quality Education (FQE), Ibrahim Sheka Kanu stated his delight with the functioning of the commission which has become a novelty to the country as perceived and accorded by the international community. “FQE remains an unblemished partner to the ACC in implementing all packages of Free Quality of Sierra Leone’s Education” he emphasized.

Deputy Director Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Ibrahim Kamara and Head of Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education in Port Loko City, Mr. Lavalie all hailed ACC’s Public Education drive not only in the North West Region, but the country as a whole.

Earlier in the morning, ACC Senior Public Education Officer, Samuel Junisa Sankoh has engaged Education Sector Partners in Port Loko City on the relevance of coalition building and partnership in the campaign against corruption in Sierra Leone’s education. It was an interactive session which left partners as openers to professionally stand accountability and transparency in book learning and all forms of education for national building.

How worthwhile these engagements have been, are nothing to be overemphasized. Since the ACC is thickly concerned of sanity in all spheres and aspects of Education in Sierra Leone, pending national exams would be jointly monitored. The fight against corruption is winnable
